About us

We’ve been riding mountain bikes since the late '80s, when the first MTBs landed in the UK from the States — and we’ve been hooked ever since. Back then, biking was a way to stay fit for summer climbing trips or to make the most of wet-weather days when rock faces were too slick to scale.

Fast-forward thirty-odd years (and conveniently glossing over a few lost seasons spent on golf courses — don’t ask), and our passion for off-road riding has only grown stronger..

Enter: The Winter Mud Dilemma With the advent of dropper posts and affordable LED lights, winter riding suddenly became more doable — even fun. Steep, muddy, root-laced singletrack in the rain? Yes, please. But there was one recurring problem: no rear mudguard could keep up with us.

They rattled, rubbed the tyre, hooked on our shorts, snapped off mid-ride, or twisted sideways. We eventually gave up on them — and paid the price. Mud-caked bikes, ruined dropper posts, freezing cold post-ride pub stops (shout out to Dave the landlord for keeping muddy riders outside).

The mudhugger

By the end of the wettest UK summer on record (2012), we were fed up. Armed with an old mudguard, some aluminium scraps, and pop rivets, we built the first prototype Mudhugger — for ourselves. After just a few rides, we knew we were onto something. It worked. It really worked.

From Garage Hack to Global Ride Companion Twelve years and thousands of muddy miles later, Mudhugger is now a global brand with a complete range of rear and front mudguards for 26", 27.5", 29"mountain bikes, E-bikes and gravel bikes. We ship worldwide from our dedicated online stores and continue to design with one mission: make wet-weather riding better.
